The Decades According To You?
50s- 1954-very early 1964, basically the time Chuck Berry/Elvis rock and teen rebellion started coming around, pretty much ended when JFK was shot. (Influence from 1945 to 1966.)
60s- 1964-1971, I'd say anytime The Beatles were popular. (Influence from 1962 to 1980)
70s- 1971-1980. From the breakup and deaths of the sixties rock stars/bands, and Watergate, until Disco faded from the mainstream. (Influence from '67 to '85.)
80s- late 1981-early 1992. Premiere of MTV and Reagan's election until "Teen Spirit". (Influence from '77 to '95)
90s- late 1991-early 2003. Nirvana and especially the Clinton election until before 9/11. Late 01, 02 and early 03 are iffy, but from today's perspective, go more with the nineties. (Influence from 1986 to 2009!)
2000s- (short) mid 2003-mid 2008. Iraq War until the Obama election, which also coincided with "today's tech" like Facebook and Twitter blowing up, and GaGa/Katy Perry autotune electropop. (Influence from 1998 to residually today still, maybe 2013.)
2010s- (late 2008-2018ish?) started with the Obama election, and kicking into full steam in Spring 2012. Influence since '06.

Re: The Decades According To You?
^Overall most of those dates match my dates
the '50s - 1946-1963 - grey flannel suit era, innocent pop culture, post-war boom, doo wop, early rock n roll
music figures like Elvis Presley, Chuck Berry, Buddy Holly
(influence 1945-1965)
year that embodies the decade/peak year: 1956?(less certain of this one)
the '60s - 1964-1971 - marked by youth cultural upheaval/counter culture, The Beatles, go go girls, mop tops, folk-rock, psychedelia, hippies and motown pop, rebellious pop culture
(influence 1963-1981)
peak year: 1967
the '70s - 1971-1980 - continued and expanded on a lot of the cultural themes and ideas started in the '60s, bellbottoms, afros, hippies/stoners, leisure suits, mood rings, soul/funk, watergate, disco, and prog rock, wild and liberating pop culture
(influence 1967-1984)
peak year: 1976
the '80s - 1981-1991 - MTV, synthpop, hair metal, early alternative rock, and yuppies, people cared less about rebelling against "the man" and more about making some money, "greed is good", florescent colors
(influence 1977-1996)
peak year: 1984
the '90s - 1991-2001 - grunge, gangsta rap, eurodance, teen-pop, minimalist fashion aesthetic, the dot com boom, cynical and subdued pop culture
(influence 1986-2008)
peak year: 1995
the '00s - 2001-2009 - peak popularity of hip-hop culture, 911, crunk and dirty south rap dominate, emo, mall punk, grime, post-grunge, social media explosion, reality tv, bling bling, autotune, trashy pop culture
(influence 1997-present, probably to 2015-ish)
peak year: 2006
the '10s - 2009-present - started with the economic meltdown and music turning towards electronic dance music, skinny pants, hipster fashions, dubstep, political and economic upheavals, Arab Spring/OWS/global protest movements
(influence 2006-present)

German point of view (music, fashion, technology, movies, television):

mid 1991-98 (influence until ca. 2005)
2000s (influence until now and still going on)
1999-2007

With the '70s and '00s I could equally include '69-'80(for '70s) and '99-'07(for '00s) for each respective decades.
In 1969 most '70s things(bellbottoms, wide collars, afros, long indian hair, long sideburns, wah wah funk guitar effects, Jackson 5, Led Zeppelin, ect) were already present but most people still dressed in more "conservative" attire until around '72/'73, a lot of people have a very inaccurate impression that the youth were dressing like hippies by '67/'68 and I do not see that at all looking a yearbook pics from that time period.
by '99 a lot of '00s elements were showing up too(bling, preppy fashions, dirty south rap, early autotune, mall punk, Eminem, Britney Spears, ect).
If the rest of this decade is similar to '12(dominated by electronic dance music, indie hipster fashions, economic crisis, ect.) then late '08/'09 can definitely be seen as the beginning of the 2010s(both pop culturally and politically).

I pretty much agree with this.

Just curious but how did 70s influence last until 1990? I see nothing 70s about that year at all.

If somebody else says that the 90s had a 23-year-lasting influence, I think it's not too wrong to argue that the 70's had an influence until around 1990. Fashion was still very old school and TV (non private) was still a bit late 70's like over here.
Of course it all depends on what is really meant by 'influence'.
